The anatomy of a strong resume

A guided tour of the six sections every recruiter expects, with a live mini-resume that highlights each one as you scroll.

01

Header

Name, title, and how to reach you.

Your header is the first thing a recruiter reads. Put your full name, the role you target, and one reliable way to reach you—email is essential, phone and LinkedIn are welcome. Keep it scannable: no photo, no tagline, no second address line.

02

Summary

Three sentences. Your pitch.

A short paragraph that frames who you are, what you do best, and one outcome you delivered. Skip the objective statement; lead with the value you bring and tailor the wording to the role you want next.

03

Experience

Roles plus measurable wins.

List roles in reverse-chronological order with company, title, dates, and 3–5 bullets each. Every bullet should start with an action verb and pair it with a number, percentage, or scope ("cut API latency 38% for 4M users").

04

Education

Degrees, schools, honors.

For each degree, list institution, qualification, and graduation year. Add honors, GPA (above 3.5), or relevant coursework only if they strengthen the application. Skip your high school once you have a bachelor's degree.

05

Skills

Grouped, ATS-friendly keywords.

Group skills by theme—languages, frameworks, tools, soft skills—so both recruiters and applicant-tracking systems can scan them quickly. Mirror the wording from the job description when the skill is genuinely yours.

06

Extras

Projects, certifications, languages.

Use this section for the things that round out your story: standout side projects, professional certifications, publications, or languages you speak at working level. Optional, but powerful when used with restraint.
